Notes for Sunday 26 March 2023

Dear friends,

Daylight savings is upon us and that means Earth Hour.
Hundreds of thousands of people around the world will turn off their lights tonight between 20:30 and 21:30 to give their time for nature. Join them and think about the state of our God’s creation and how we can help improve it. Make a pledge to do something – anything – differently in aid of our planet. Change your bank account, use the car a bit less, put your washing on the line instead of in the dryer or just eat a vegetarian meal one more day per week. Follow the link below and see the suggestions the WWF offers and read more about Earth Hour.

You may have heard that the Church of England has pledged to be carbon net zero by 2030. This could be one of our contributions to make that happen for the country.

I will be away the next two weeks. Liz has kindly offered to edit the notes. I can upload them to the website whilst we are away but unfortunately I can not send the emails so please sign up to receive these emails via the website or you will not receive them in the next two weeks. See below for instructions.

Today’s beautiful picture was kindly sent to me by Mike Reeves.

God bless,

Dineke van den Bogerd

Notes

Dear friends,

Mothering Sunday and Dik and I plan to go to the Cathedral today. In front of the cathedral is a travelling statue (also known as the National monument against Violence and aggression) called the knife angel. I thought it appropriate to post this here today as the main victims of knife crime are young people, whose parents don’t always realise how dangerous a place this world can be for their children. If you would like to know more about it have a look:
Knife Angel – Wikipedia<en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knife_Angel>

On a practical note, I am still looking for someone who will take on collating the weekly notes for Sundays 2 and 9 April.

God bless,

Dineke van den Bogerd

Notes for Sunday 12 March 2023

Dear friends,

Attached is a leaflet of the Ukraine goods collection that is currently underway in Ewhurst. If you have any of the indicated items that you can drop off that would be great.

Towards the end of the month I will be going away for 10 days and I would be grateful of offers to do the notes for Sundays 2 and 9 April.

This week’s photo is from our visit recently to Tate Modern. A lot of the exhibits were beyond me but this piece was very striking.

God bless,

Dineke van den Bogerd

Notes for Sunday 5 March 2023

Dear friends,

It’s March already and Mothering Sunday is not far off. This means the start of the season of teas as the first one is always on that Sunday.

On the hospitality theme, I would like to draw your attention to the soup lunches in aid of the Bishop of Guildford’s relief fund. Several volunteers have made soup to be served for a donation and Joy has agreed to do takeaway as well but please do bring a container if you would like to take her up on this. All details are in the notes attached.

Inspire magazine is out now and Suzanne tells me there is some info on BBC recordings in Guildford cathedral early this month. If you would like to attend, please find the info in this month’s magazine:

I am very pleased with the number of subscribers signing up for this email via our website. If you know of someone in your household or circle of friends who is not yet signed up and is struggling, please give them a hand. Naturally I will be happy to help as well if you get stuck. Use the link at the bottom to get to the right page.

Having had to lock up the hens because of avian flu has had one advantage: one hellebore (attached picture) has come back after the whole bed was devoured by them over the years. Must get some more now: I love them!

God bless,

Dineke van den Bogerd

Sunday 26 February 2023

Dear friends,

To start I would like to thank all of you who have signed up to receive the notes via the PCC website. If you haven’t got around to it yet please see how to do this at the bottom of this email. If you need help, please do not hesitate to ask me.

Our Lent course ‘Living in love and faith’ is starting this week. Rev Liz tells me there is a lot of interest and it will be a great opportunity to learn form each other when we explore the bible and exchange ideas. Please do come as we would love to hear your thoughts and feelings too!

This week we remembered how the war in Ukraine started a year ago. The end is not in sight and deep down we all consider what the consequences of this conflict could be. Let us continue to pray and provide practical help where it is needed.

The picture this week was taken by Rev Liz. We went to a CofE carbon net zero seminar (more about that in the near future) and walking back to the multi storey car park this is what it looked like from the outside: largely covered in green plants arranged in beautiful patterns it was a joy to behold.

God bless,

Dineke van den Bogerd
