Weekly news sheet 22 August 2021

Dear Friends,

I do hope you have all had a good week, my goodness they seem to fly by! I know the weather hasn’t been the sunniest, but for those off us that enjoy walking it has been an almost perfect temperature and without much rain.

Our churches remain busy, Capel had a successful church teas last Sunday (thank you to all those who came). This coming Saturday 28 August sees Bernie Osborne’s Memorial service at 3pm, which I’m sure some of you will be attending, and at the beginning of September, Ockley will host a Memorial service for Trevor King. We also have two weddings to look forward to in September Ella and Tom in Ockley on the 12th and Michael and Corinne in Capel on the 18th. Please include them all in your prayers.

This Sunday we have the following services:
9.30am Matins – Ockley
10.30am Family Communion – Capel
The 10.30 service at Capel will also see the return of Traidcraft. Their goods will be available after the service so do bring extra cash with you, I’m afraid they can’t take cards.

There will be no recording of the services this week.

I have had no other takers for the walk on Holmwood Common on 12 September. Please do let me know if you would like to join us as I have to let the organisers know within the next week. Just reply to this email. It will raise funds for our churches, so do participate if you can.

I attach this week’s reading and the weekly sheets. This week’s photo is of Polesden Lacey, a pretty view whilst I was out walking with a friend on Ranmore yesterday.

With love and prayers

Dear Friends,

I hope you are all well and have enjoyed the drier weather this week. We’ve had a busy week with birthdays, and a family BBQ today made possible by everyone doing lateral flow tests before they come. So I am sitting here surrounded by food delighted that the weather is dry enough for us to be outside.

Please do let me know if you are able to join us for the Rotary walk around Holmwood Common on 12 September. I do have to give them the numbers of participants and so far only have 3 that have said they are definitely coming. I’ve attached the flier to this email again for you to have a look at. Just reply to this email or text me on 07774 784008. Today’s photo is of one of my favourite benches on Holmwood Common.

This week’s services are:
9.30am Matins BCP at Ockley
10.30am Family communion at Capel
Both taken by Rev Liz.

We also have Capel church teas on Sunday afternoon 3-5pm. Do come if you can, we only had 4 people last time so would love to see more.

As always I attach this weeks readings and the weekly sheet. My thanks to Alan Smallwood and Sue Partridge who have helped with the sheets again this week to allow me time to get ready to see the family, and continued thanks to Margaret Zandona who delivers the sheets in Ockley to those who cannot get to church.

With love and prayers

Dear Friends

I do hope your week has gone well, we’ve had a lovely holiday with the family in Frome – 8 adults and 3 children in a massive house with huge gardens and a swimming pool. It was a delight to see everyone getting on so well, including the grandchildren. There is something very special about having a number of generations all together, and my grandson was particularly happy that he could beat his grandparents at any game we played.

Another special occasion that I have just been told about: Mr and Mrs James Moore have just celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary – congratulations to you both from all of us, a wonderful milestone.

This weeks readings and weekly sheets are attached. The services tomorrow are :
9.30 Holy communion at Ockley
10.30 Cafe church at the Crown Capel.
You will see that we have updated the Covid guidelines in each of our churches. Please do read them again, we want to make the transition to normal as gentle as possible to allow everyone to feel safe whilst in church.

Finally, you will see that the weekly sheets has a small section about the Dorking food bank. This is the time of year when stocks in the warehouse are at their lowest, so if you can donate canned or dry food please do leave it in the boxes in our churches.

This week’s photo is a throwback to this time last year – the view from Leith Hill early one morning, look at the sunshine!

Dear friends,

I write this overlooking a lovely courtyard in the most amazing house where we are holidaying with all the family near Frome. So far today we have walked the dog, and the children have swum in the pool, this afternoon we are off to see a castle nearby, which our grandson Tom is particularly keen to do as knights are his favourite characters. I do hope you are also having an enjoyable Saturday.

My thanks again this week to Alan Smallwood for doing the weekly sheets and Sue Partridge and Alan for doing the deliveries in Capel. There is a lot coming up so please do look at the extra fliers with this week’s sheets. The Archbishop’s visit to Guildford Diocese happens in September. There are two events that we are invited to:

Friday 24 September 8pm at the Lakeside Centre Camberley
Anyone can attend this evening where the Archbishop will speak about the future of the local church.

Saturday 25 September 11.30 Dorking Halls
The Archbishop will answer any questions you may have (please submit them to Rev Liz beforehand). This event is specifically for regular churchgoers to bring non church going friends along to, so that they may ask all those questions about faith – no question is off limits!

Both events are described in more detail in the attached flier, with a link so that you can book tickets.

Rotawalk ’21 organised by Dorking Rotary Club.
Sponsored walk 12 September around Holmwood Common
This is an organised sponsored walk around Holmwood Common (5k) an opportunity to raise funds for our churches. Again the attached flier has all the details.

Suzanne Cole has been busy this week and so you will be pleased to hear that the new issue of InSpire is available in both our churches. As always it’s a wonderful read, thank you to Suzanne for creating this valuable resource each month. The front cover of this month’s issue is our photo of the week.

Services this Sunday are:
9.30am Matins Ockley
10.30am Morning Worship Capel
Both services will be taken by Graham Everness, who has kindly supplied his sermon for those who cannot attend, which is attached.

Following on from the lifting of restrictions on 19 July we have met as a PCC, so have updated our requests around social distancing etc. Please continue to wear masks if you are able to and take note of the new guidelines which are on this week’s weekly sheets.

With love and prayers
