Congratulations to Mandy Schryver on being awarded the British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours! Chairman of our Parish Council, Mandy, has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the village. Many congratulations on her very week deserved recognition!
Mandy has served on the Capel Parish Council for 14 years, and has been a tireless Chairman for 7 of these. She gives her time freely to many other aspects of village life, organising the outside events at the Capel Horticultural Society’s Annual Show for the past 20 summers, serving teas and coffees and washing up each month at Flix in the Stix, being a hands-on trustee of Charlotte Broadwood Flats, to name a few. She also performs many unsung kindnesses, cooking several turkeys on Christmas Day for people with no power after the big storm!
The British Empire Medal is awarded for “meritorious service worthy of recognition by the Crown.” It was established in 1922 and awarded to subjects in the UK until 1993 after which it lay in abeyance until Prime Minister David Cameron restored it to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
