Wealdon Woods Flowers and Butterflies – Jill Fry

The Weald is that wedge of clays and sands in between the North and South Downs.

It includes the South- western part of Kent , the Northern half of Sussex and the southern half of Surrey as well as the most easterly part of Hampshire.  It gets its name from the Saxon word for Wood “ Die Wald” and it is a patchwork of many sorts of clays and sands,  with widely differing drainage and chemistry.  These provide niches for a variety of plants and butterflies that take advantage of the sheltered conditions these woods offer.

Plant Hunting in Papua New Guinea – Graham Pattison

Our speaker was lucky enough to be selected as the member of horticultural staff at Kew to join the Kew expedition to Papua New Guinea in 1975. Three of them spent six months exploring and collecting plants and herbarium specimens on the main land and on various of the islands, including being the first Europeans to visit one mountain in New Ireland. The illustrated talk will show some of the plants and sites visited.

Around the World in 80 Gardens – Colin Jones
This evening we will follow the seasons through the gardening year visiting the great gardens and flower shows large and small around the world. Visiting Holland, France, Madeira, South Africa, America, Canada and New Zealand. This talk is for all have an interest in gardening/travel, or who just like looking at beautiful plants and places

The 2 Hour A Week Allotment – Peter Almond
Illustrated talk including 10 Top Tips for allotment holders who have a limited amount of time. Including raised beds for ease of maintenance & crop rotation, what crops to grow, making best use of space, hints on making your own compost & crop protection ideas.  This talk is also relevant for anyone growing fruit & vegetables in their own garden.
