East Village Book Club

After a summer break we started with a meeting to discuss “Sweet Tooth 11 by lan McEwan, and any other books enjoyed during the lovely weather. Many had read Murder Mysteries and several members now have Kindles which they find a great help for holiday reading.

The next read was “Life after Life 11 by Kate Atkinson and this is now out in paperback. The book is different and challenging but worth a go.

Then on to the late lan Banks “Crow Road”; a good story and only marred for some by the’ back and forward ‘chapters,

December, we had the Douglas Kennedys’ “The woman in the Fifth”,again different, not a total favourite; however there is a DVD of this so we will give that a viewing and see if it has better impact. One opinion was that the dramatisation of “Death comes to Pemberley” had a better “look” than the book, which most had thought very poor.

We move on this year to “The Mountains Echoed” by Khaled Hussain and follow it with Galbraith and Rowlings “Cuckoo Calling” a newly published novel.

Its fun to meet and it’s not just about the specific reads, as we recommend other items or swap books and have tea and cake! DOT THORP
