Dear Friends

What a beautiful week of sunshine we’ve had! I hope you’ve all managed to get out and enjoy it, we’ve had some wonderful walks as witnessed by this week’s photo which is a view of Polesden Lacey from the Ranmore side of the valley.

Attached to this missive are quite a few documents as it is our annual APCM tomorrow where we review what’s happened over the previous year, put the accounts forward for formal approval and elect/re-elect members of the PCC who are coming to the end of their term of office. The Annual Review and the Accounts are attached along with the independent examiners report, the agenda for the APCM and last year’s minutes. If you are coming to the meeting at 11.30 tomorrow at Capel (after the 10.30 service) please do bring an electronic copy with you, I can print off a few hard copies if you ask me to, but will not have spare ones with me as we are trying to save on paper!

I also attach the normal weekly sheet, the readings and the bishop’s sermon which this week is given by Peter Harwood director of mission at the diocese. The link for the Youtube video is here:

Lastly, 8 May is the day of our church teas in aid of TREEAID who are helping to fund the Great Green Wall. Please do come and support us, we’ll be open 3-5pm and will be serving the teas outside in the churchyard in line with Covid regulations. We could do with a couple of gazebos, if you have one we could borrow we would be most grateful, we are also looking for 2 or 3 helpers, so if you have a few hours to spare please reply to this email.

I look forward to seeing you in church whenever you feel ready to come, in the meantime if you would like any further assistance do let us know.

With love and prayers

Dear Friends,

I know the weather is still chilly, but isn’t the sunshine wonderful, so much better than the snow which came as quite a surprise this week. We even managed to have our first meal outside at a pub, it felt quite surreal after all this time, as though we were doing something wrong!

This week the Bishop’s sermon has been given by Martin Breadmore the Archdeacon of Dorking – it’s well worth a view on Youtube if you have time:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtxZggWE3zM
The transcript is attached as normal.

We have a some of dates for your diary:

Saturday 8 May 3-5pm church teas outside at Capel Church. These teas are in aid of the Great Green Wall and all the proceeds will go to TREEAID one of the charities involved in this wonderful movement. What’s more as the money will be raised before 9 July the government will match anything we raise so every penny you spend on tea and cake will be doubled! Please come and support us, the teas will be socially distanced and adhere to all the guidelines. There will be gazebos if the weather is less than clement. Bring your friends!

Saturday 11 September 8pm at Capel Church Cottage concerts is back! The first concert will be the wonderful Jacqui McShee from Pentangle with Kevin Dempsey and Mike Piggott. Her last concert was a huge success and all the tickets sold out well before the date, so please book now to make sure you get a seat. Enormous thanks to Bob and Judy Cranham for organising these concerts – it’s great to have them back.

Saturday 20 November 12noon – 4pm Capel Christmas Fair. I know it’s a little early to be advertising this, but please put the date in your diaries, Suzanne Cole and I have put a lot of work into finding some really interesting stalls. The proceeds will be split between the church and MNDA (Motor Neurone disease Association). We will have some great lunch food from Hill House Farm and Silent Pool distilleries are coming to do mulled gin! We also have Dorking Breweries and their beer. Every ticket includes a free tea or coffee, so please bring your friends we hope you’ll enjoy it.

Please remember that due to the sad death of the Duke of Edinburgh we changed the church services last week. Therefore this Sunday there will be 9.30 Holy Communion at Ockley with Rev Liz and Capel will have Cafe church at 10.30 led by Bob Cranham and the band. The service at Ockley will include some of Prince Philip’s favourite readings and hymns sung by the choir. Services are back to normal next week with 9.30am Morning Worship at Ockley and 10.30am Family Communion at Capel, this will be followed by our APCM, the paper work for which will be sent to you next week by email. If anyone would like printed copies please let me know.

Please do let me know if you have any neighbours or friends who would like to receive our emails, so long as I have their permission I will happily add them to our list. Alternatively if you no longer wish to receive these emails do just reply to this email saying unsubscribe. We never share your details with other organisations.

Lastly, our photo of the week was taken this morning whilst walking in the bluebell woods here in Capel – they are just beginning to flower, be prepared for lots more photos of them as they are my favourite flower, and something I treasure each year.

With love and prayers

Dear Friends

You will all by now have heard of the sad death of Prince Philip yesterday morning. Our hearts and prayers are with the Queen and the Royal family as they spend time grieving for their husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He has made a huge difference to this country and the monarchy over his many years in service. The bells will be muffled and ring in Ockley today at 12 noon, having rung in Capel yesterday evening.

Due to this sad occasion we have changed the services for this Sunday. Graham Everness will still preside over Matins at 9.30am at St Margaret’s, but Rev Liz will now take a service of remembrance and holy communion at Capel at 10.30. Cafe church will move to next Sunday 18th in Capel church.

Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions we cannot have a physical book of condolences, instead you may sign one online here:
www.churchofengland.org/remembering-his-royal-highness-prince-philip

The church in Capel will be open every day as normal for private prayer and to light a candle. St Margaret’s will be open at the weekends.

Bishop Jo has given a short message and a prayer for the Royal family here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5LNxs1WzTk

For those who can’t yet come to church there will also be a special songs of Praise tomorrow 11 April on BBC1 at 1.15pm in tribute to His Royal Highness.

I attach the weekly sheets, Graham’s sermon, Bishop Jo’s sermon and the normal readings for this week. Please note that we will be using different readings at Capel tomorrow.

With love and prayers

Duke of Edinburgh

Dear friends,

I’m sure you will all have heard the sad news that the Duke of Edinburgh died this morning.  To mark this sad day the bells at Capel church will be muffled and ring at 6pm this evening.  The Diocese has suggested that we light candles in commemoration of his life, and you can sign an online book of condolences here:
Our church services for this Sunday have changed.  Graham Everness will still preach Matins at Ockley at 9.30, but cafe church at Capel will now move to Sunday 18th April and Rev Liz will lead us in a service of remembrance with holy communion this Sunday at 10.30am.  Please do let anyone know who doesn’t have access to the internet.
For those of us who can’t join us in church this Sunday there is a lovely tribute by Bishop Jo which can be watched here:
Our prayers are with the Queen and the rest of the Royal family as they mourn his passing and remember his long life spent in service to the crown and country.
