Weald School News – January 2014

The start of a new calendar year is always a good time to take stock and reflect on the year past (and in our case that’s the academic year, our Autumn Term).

I always find it surprising when you look back at how much has been achieved.

The pupils chose a number of different Charities last term: For Harvest we sent a boot full of store cupboard goods to Pitt Stop in Leatherhead; the Pumpkin raffle raised money for Leprosy sufferers in India and our sponsored NSPCC fundraiser saw over £4,400 being raised through physical activity also the Christmas Concert and Nativity collection raised money for the victims of the Philippine Typhoon. With these events the children learnt not only the joy of giving and selflessness. they found out about issues affecting others around the world. the history of our festivals but also have enhanced their own fitness levels too.

In addition to all the school events we have had. we have also tried to play an active part in our local community: Year 6 pupils served lunch each month at the. Beare Green Luncheon Club; the orchestra performed for the Lunch Club Christmas Meal; The Weald Christmas tree adorned the Capel Churchyard. the Choir sang at Denbies and both the Retro Dance Club and Samba Band performed at the Beare Green Christmas Fair. We hope to continue to have a significant presence in the local community during the spring term and would welcome invites to attend local events that you may be involved with.

This coming term, following on from the initial public consultation on the school’s redevelopment proposals. (the summary consultation report and full report are now available on the school website), The Diocese and the Governing Body have decided to proceed to the next stage with the plans. The intention is to refine the proposals in view of the feedback received and enter into pre-application discussions with officers at Mole Valley DC and other officials. This will include further consultation with the community and key stakeholders too. We would still very much welcome any letters of support or otherwise. Please email Leisa Sleat, Business Manager, at consultation@weald.surrey.sch.uk.

Wishing you all a productive and happy 2014.
