Cabbages, Cakes, Chrysanthemums At Capel’s Horticultural Show 2013

Despite the weather forecast record numbers visited Capel Show on Saturday 17th August. The huge marquee was packed with 700 entries ranging from cupcakes to carrots, amazing dahlias, flower arrangements and perfect vegetables sat alongside creative handicrafts and photographic entries. Chris Coke, Chairman of Capel Horticultural Society, said “Considering the weather conditions over the summer months I have been delighted at the high quality of the horticultural exhibits this year as well as the record breaking number of entries.”

Capel Show offered something for everybody – the youngsters enjoyed a puppet show as well as getting up close to sheep and rabbits. There were more new stalls that never before as well as the regulars offering good food, tea and cakes. This year there were almost 600 classic cars and bikes on display.

Mandy Schryver, who organises all that goes on in the show ground, said “We think this was a vintage year and definitely our best show yet. New exhibitors included Parrot Rescue, several artisan stalls and Wheels for Heroes from the Princess of Wales Regiment. The fun dog show had double entries of the previous year. Even a rain shower could not dampen spirits, everybody had so much fun.”

Show awards published soon and detailed results will likely be published in October.
