Capel Choral Society

By the time this is read, Capel Choral Society will have taken part in the 2014 Leith Hill Music Festival and I will hopefully be able to report some success for the Choir in the Competitions on the morning of 10th April. However, Capel is the smallest choir in the Festival, competing against choirs twice our size and a feeling of ‘safety in numbers’ always help when facing the Adjudicator! We urgently need to recruit more singers in order to maintain our standing in the Festival.

With the Festival over for another year we will be turing our attention to our Summer Concert which this year will be a light-hearted ‘Teas and Tunes’ in the Memorial Hall on the afternoon of Saturday 7th June, starting at 3:30pm. Tea and cakes are included in the ticket price of £7. A medley of song arrangements, mostly English, some well known, some less so, will be performed by the Choir.

For more information and tickets, please contact Ian Moir on 01306 889817 or email ian.moir@csmaclub.org .

I hope we will be able to welcome you on this June afternoon.

CAPEL CHORAL SOCIETY ~ This year will again be busy for the Society but a quick re-cap to 2012 which we rounded off with the annual Capel Choral Cantata Concert in Warnham Church. A good musical time was had by all and rounded off nicely with the festive ingredients of mulled wine and mince pie.

The Festival will always be associated with its most recognised musician, Ralph Vaughan Williams, who was Festival Conductor up until r 953.

Over the past 109 years there have only been 5 conductors -the present one being Brian Kay (coming up to 20 years) -musician, broadcaster and former King’s Singer.

The Festival takes place over a 3 day period in April-Thursday I I rh I Friday 12th I Saturday 13th ~ held in Dorking Halls and split into 3 Divisions -a Division a day.

CCS·will be performing in Division r on Saturday 13th April-hopefully lucky!

The big weekend in Capel this August will be augmented on the Saturday Night with our very own fantastic “Jubilee Prom Concert” on the Memorial Field – a most apt venue for such auspicious occasion – given by Capel Choral Society with Orchestra and Soloists and conducted by Peter Ford. Music will include not only more traditional works by Haydn, Parry and Handel but also those other celebratory pieces and Prom favourites which will make this a night to remember. The whole concert will add greatly, not only to the celebrations that weekend, but also to the other 2012 celebrations for Queen and Countru (= Olympics).

The concert will take place in the marquee at 7:30pm with gates opening at 6pm so there will be ample opportunity and space to indulge in a full picnic on the palatial surroundings beforehand – you can even buy a special bottle of Jubilee Champagne to toast whoever.

Come along for a “Cuppa and Cake” and much more – there will be many other attractions and produce stalls so what better way to spend a Saturday morning and support your local Choral Society. PS – If you can sing (even a little) why not chat to a member about coming along to a Monday evening practice at 7:30pm in the Hall and maybe joining in the grand Jubilee Prom on 18th August on the Memorial Field – hope to see you there.
