The Evergreens

September 23rd saw us setting off to Buckingham Palace, unfortunately not to have tea with the Queen, but to look around this magnificent Palace and to view the Coronation Robes which were wonderful.

We had a fantastic day and came home feeling very happy.

On September 28th we held our McMillan Coffee morning. Many, many thanks to everyone who helped, who came and contributed, and thanks to Real Coffee for their wonderful coffee. We raised £435.43 our biggest total so far, and thanks to Kath Capsey for organising it.

On 14th October a group of us are off to Skegness for a short break, just hope the weather holds out.

The Evergreens – September 13

Our trip to Althorp on the 15th July was a truly wonderful experience and must ahve been the best tip we have had for quite a time. Several members comments were “how do we top that?” Our driver was very good, avoiding all the heavy traffic on the way home. All in a great day out!

On a more sad note we lost one of our very dear Evergreens – Olive Touzel who died on the 16th July and whose funeral service was held in Capel Village Church on 30th July. She was one of the founder members of the Evergreens and was our Treasurer for many years. She will be sadly missed.

The Evergreens

Our June outing was changed from Weymouth to Bognor and on 17th June to the aforementioned on a lovely sunny day. We all had a super day due to the marvelous weather an on the way home we stopped for tea at the newly-restored Roundstones Garden Centre.

On the 24th June we had a tombola in aid of Friends of Capel and raised £100 which has now been sent off to them.

If anyone fees they would care to join us at the Evergreens we would be only happy to see them. If you would like details just give me a ring on 712827 .

The Evergreens

Our May outing was a trip on the river Thames and as the weather had been awful up to this point we set off with some trepidation on the morning of the 20th. However, our fears were unfounded and we arrived in Windsor in sunny weather. Having been told by the driver that the Changing of the Guard was due to take place, most of us set off for Windsor castle to enjoy the proceedings. We then boarded the boat for our trip down the river and while gazing at some of the gorgeous houses we enjoyed a lovely cream tea.

We occasionally have spare seats on our outings, so if you fancy joining us we would love to see you. Our programme is at the front of the magazine so you can see where we are going. Just give me a ring on 712827.

The Evergreens

On the 15th April, thirty of us set off for a short holiday to Weston-super-Mare. Whilst there we also visited the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth where there were such awful floods in the 1950’s. Another day saw us in the beautiful city of Bath, where we spent some time in the old Roman Baths, the magnificent Abbey and viewed some of the lovely Georgian Terraces. We arrived home on the Friday, tired but happy.

The following Monday we set off to Visit Poole on one of our day trips, where we arrived in glorious sunshine and it stayed with us all day. We did all the usual things one does at the seaside, Poole pottery, the Museum, boat trip round the harbor and, of course, fish and chip lunches. All too soon it was time to head for home.

At the beginning of the month we welcomed back two of our members, who due to ill health have been absent from us. Mary Campbell, who had been in hospital since November. and Tony Emery, who had been in various hospitals since last May. It is wonderful to have them back with us, and looking so great. KATH RUDKIN

The Evergreens

On March 18th we had a fish and chip lunch, which was enjoyed by many of us, followed by a slide show, presented by MickMansbridge. This took us down memory lane, as most of the slides were of our outings. We then had a slide quiz given by Mich Cope, which consisted of shots of places Visited by The Evergreens; its surprising how quickly we forget and no one had all the answers correct (it must be an age thing!). Members had been asked to make Easter Bonnets and Easter Cards and these were judged after the slide show The winner of the best had was Christine Morse and the best card went to Anne Warren.

The following Monday we were due to .go to Duxford and Cambridge but we had to cancel at  the last minute due to bad weather. However, we intend to go at a later date an hopefully the weather will be better by then.

If anyone wishes to join us, we would be pleased to see you and if you Wish to know more just give me a ring on 712827.

The Evergreens

The year started off well with our New Year Lunch at the Reigate Manor hotel which was rather special for us as we celebrated our Twenty One years, and to join us in our celebrations was our first leader, Freda Nelson. We hope that the Evergreens carry on for another 21 years.

We are now looking forward to the coming year with more outings and holidays and various activities. If anyone wishes to join us, we would be happy to see you. If you would like more information give me a ring. 712827. Kath Rudkin.

The Evergreens – Thank You

As we didn’t have a trip last month, there isn’t a lot to report. However, I would like this opportunity to thank, on behalf of the Evergrees, all the people involved in organising The Old Friends Christmas Paarty. We all had a wonderful time and very much appreciate all the hard work involved.

So thank you all very much indeed!

The Evergreens

On Monday, 20th august, we took a trip to the Cotswolds – Bourton-on-the-Water to be precise, and what wonderful weather we had. The journey was really great, with all that wonderful scenery enhanced by the sunshine. We arrived in time for lunch and, as there are so many eateries there, we were spoiled for choice. Having eaten, it was time to hit the sops (for some of us at least_ whilst some members of the Camera Club went off to capture photos for their various projects and I am sure they got some good ones too. All too soon it was time to have a cuppa and head back to the coach to make our way home. altogether a lovely trip.

The Evergreens

Our trip to the National Memorial Arboretum was cancelled due to lack of support and instead we went to Longleat. What a wonderful day it turned out to be. The sun shone and all the animals were out, really enjoying the sunshine. After a lovely lunch some of us went around the beautiful house, whilst others chose to go on a boat trip – altogether a really lovely day!

On May 28th we started our Jubilee Celebrations early with a delicious lunch cooked and served by our Committee, followed by a Royal Quiz.

This Monday June 18th sees us going to Eastbourne but, according to the weather forecast, we won’t be having our usual ‘Evergreens’ weather. However, we will have a good time.  K.R.
