Capel East Village Book Club

After three meetings. we drew a blank on days free in December, so our next gathering is in January for lunch at a pub, then tea at a members house over the road!

We can all look forward to a post Christmas treat.

Our book this month to read is “The Goldfinch”by Donna Tartt.

So far we have read John Moore, Elmbury trilogies, Gone Girl, and Jane Austen’s Persuasion.

Various other personal choices read were discussed a real mix but most of us like a murder mystery. Our host last month handed out a selection of recent paperbacks on loan, these we can review next meeting.

Great to see the Beare Green group is up and running, and the other known Capel group are going DT

Children’s Society Coffee Morning Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who came along to the church on Saturday 22nd November to the Children’s Society coffee morning and Traidcraft sale. We raised a total of nearly £500 from christmas card sales and refreshments for the Children’s Society and Sue Partridge’s Traidcraft stall raised approximately £80 which was also a good result. Suzanne would like to thank her hard working band of helpers – Joy, Betty, Jessie, Wendy and Liz, without whom it would not have been possible. We are all very grateful to everyone who gave up some of their weekend, to come along and help us raise money for a very worthy cause. If anyone would like to keep a collecting box at home please speak to Suzanne. Our next event in aid of the Children’s Society is Christingle on Sunday 1st February at lOam. We are hoping to have a speaker from The Children’s Society at the service to tell us how our fundraising money is spent and on the important work that the Society does. Anyone who has collecting boxes at home-these need to be gathered in for counting during January 2015.Please contact Suzanne Cole if you need her to pick yours up. Thank you again to those who came and made the fund raiser a success. Suzanne Cole 01306 71 1449 or email slc@ansford.me.uk. SC

The Old Friend’s Christmas Party

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Old Friends Christmas Party. It was a wonderful occasion. We had loads of lovely comments. It really couldn’t happen without all of your help.

The raffle raised over £400, which also goes a long way towards the cost.

Best wishes,

Emma

Capel Old Friend’s Party

Chris D suggested I write the article, as a first time guest.

Having, like several others, sometimes been a helper, it was a new experience.

Guided into the hall with friendly greetings to view lovely decorations, balloons, Christmas trees, baubles, bespoke table decorations. and hand-made napkin rings.

Then drinks were served continuously to over a hundred people, followed by a welcome and “staff news”.

Vicar Liz said grace, and we were all served a plate of delicious food within 20minutes!

Entertainment followed the pudding, and the jolly duo had people dancing and tapping their toes, with familiar songs.

Then came the excellent raffle and tea fcoffee and mince pies, and Freda’s traditional lead for Auld Lang Syne.

Welcome to the trainees who have graduated to take over, from those who have, after many years stepped down.

If this was a media review it would say Food *****
