The Evergreens

On 26th April 42 of us set off for Michelham Priory in East Sussex and what a wonderful day we had. The weather was glorious (apart from two five minute downpours of sleet and snow). The Priory is a Tudor Mansion, but originally a Monastery back in 1229, surrounded by a moat and beautiful gardens. It also has a working watermill and forge where you can watch the millers and blacksmiths at work. Altogether a lovely day, and we arrived home in a snowstorm and saw Capel covered in snow.

On the 9th May we had a Tombola in aid of Tadworth Children’s Trust and raised £!50. Our next outing on 23rd May is to the Cotswolds, always a favourite place of the Evergreens.

The Evergreens – Trip Along The South Coast

On 14th March we had our first outing of the year, which was a trip along the South Coast. We started at Brighton continued along to Worthing, where we had lunch at a Garden Centre and with an hour or so looking around. we then continued onto Arundel for a “cuppa” before heading for home.

We have just arrived back from our holiday in Ireland exhausted from early mornings and late nights but have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were taught how to pull a pint of Guinness, make an Irish Baileys Coffee and also make Irish Soda Bread and were entertained wth wonderful Irish Dancing.

We had some lovely trips round the Island visiting Dublin, Kilkenny and the Waterford Glass Factory. Altogether a great holiday.

The Evergreens

Way back in October we visited the Royal Hospital Chelsea, home of the Chelsea Pensioners and we were so impressed with  our visit that we invited our guide to come and speak to us

at one of our meetings.  So it came about that Brian Cumming  visited us on the 8th February and as we were having one of our lunches that day we invited him to join us. We  had such an enjoyable day, with  him giving a great talk with   accompanying slides.   We  learned so much about the Chelsea Pensioners and their lives at the Royal Hospital.

This month  we start our trips, the first one being a coastal trip  and a visit to a Garden Centre, then in

April about 30 of us are off to Ireland for a few days.

The Evergreens

May I, on behalf of all the Evergreens, thank all concerned for a wonderful lunch and afternoon of entertainment on December 6th. The “newbies” were very impressed an us “old timers” knew that we were in for a good afternoon. So thank you all. KR

The Evergreens

On the 24th November we went to the Imperial War Museum where there was an exhibition to celebrate the centenary of the First World War. It was very interesting and well worth the visit. Afterwards we had a tour round London to see the Christmas lights, made all the more interesting by our coach driver who gave us a commentary.                                                                                     KR

The Evergreens

On 20th October we went to Brighton and spent a most enjoyable day by the sea in the sunshine. The following Monday saw 39 of us setting off to Kendal in sunshine but as the week progressed the weather worsened. However it didn’t dampen our spirits. It was a Turkey and Tinsel week so we had an early Christmas. We visited Lake Windermere, Hawkshead and Skipton. On the Wednesday we went to Ullswater and Keswick and then up over the Kirkstone Pass. Fortunately this was the best day weatherwise. Finally we celebrated Halloween on the coach on the way home. A truly great holiday! Thanks to Kath Capsey for organising.

On the 28th April we set off for Portsmouth to visit the new updated Mary Rose Exhibition. wow!! It was absolutely wonderful. It was certainly everything it was cracked up to be and ore. Everyone of us really enjoyed and if there is anyone in Capel who has not seen it, it is certainly worth a visit (or two). We had the usual Evergreens weather and all arrived home exhausted but certainly very happy.

The Evergreens – December 2013

Our November trip was to Covent Garden where We arrived in time for coffee and then some shopping before we had lunch. After lunch it was time to set off to the Theatre Royal. Drury Lane where we were booked for a backstage tour. What a wonderful theatre this is; it is the oldest in the world dating back to the 1600’s. We were shown around by various actors all dressed up in costume and giving us wonderful commentaries. At the end of the tour we were sorry to leave.

On behalf of the Evergreens I would like to thanks the Friends of Capel for a truly magnificent party on Saturday. December 7th. You all worked so hard to entertain us and we really appreciated it.

Thank you all so much.

The Evergreens – December 2013

14th October saw 39 of us setting off from Capel for Skegness for a short break, and what great time we all had. Lincolnshire may be flat but what lovely little villages it has. We visited Louth a beautiful Georgian Market town, Boston where the main attraction is the Boston Stump and Lincoln who’s magnificent Cathedral is perched on top of a hill, so steep that many of us couldn’t contemplate climbing it. A truly lovely holiday.

We arrived back on the Friday ready to set off on Monday to Duxford. This was a trip that we had booked back in March but due to bad weather we had to postpone. This time however the weather was kinder (it was just bucketing down with rain) . When we arrived in Duxford half were dropped off to visit the Museum and the rest carried on to Cambridge where hopefully we would be able to visit some of the Colleges, which didn’t happen as they were closed to the public. So it meant a little retail therapy. We all had a really wonderful day.

Please note there will no meeting of the Evergreens on Mondays 23rd and 30th December.
