Capel Annual Grand Vicarage Fete

SATURDAY 21ST JUNE 2014 12pm – 3pm

One of the main events of our summer social calendar is almost here, the Annual Grand Vicarage Fete. This year it takes place on Saturday 21st June 12pm – 3pm, kindly hosted by Rev Liz and Doug Richardson at The Vicarage, 54 The Street, Capel.

It’s a fantastic afternoon for the whole family raising money for our local schools: The Weald C of E Primary School, Scott Broadwood C of E Infant School and Capel Pre-School

Come and join us for wonderful cream teas, BBQ and a chance to buy or win at the variety of stalls. Entertainment will be provided by the children.

We are also looking for good quality toys, books, CDs, DVDs and Bric-a-Brac, if there are any goods you didn’t manage to sell during the Capel Village Car Boot Sale but would like to donate, please drop at 11 Mortimer Road or The Vicarage.

We are also looking for good quality helpers, if you can spare an hour of your time helping to set up or clear away or run a stall, we would love to hear from you. Please call Michelle Clark on 07803 702442 or email mich.rich@btinternet.com

We look forward to seeing you there!

Can You Help?

Surrey Police are currently investigating criminal damage to vehicles that occurred overnight Friday 14th June into Saturday 15th June 2013. A person has walked along The Street in Capel and deliberately scratched vehicles parked along the road. We believe that approximately 15 vehicles have been damaged from this mindless act of criminal damage. We are seeking information in relation to this investigation and would like to hear from anyone who may know who has done this. Please contact us on 101 quoting crim reference MV/13/2245 or alternatively call crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111

Capel Memorial Hall Bookings

The Hall has been at the centre of Capel Village – both geographically and socially – since 1912. Over the 100 years there have been major additions and significant imporvements to ensure that this local facility is kept up to the highest standard and available to all at modest cost.

Much of this success has been achieved by hard working and conscientious committees, the current one comprising chariman, treasurer, secretary and other members from the many regular weekly user groups.

Whilst the committee is at the Heart of the Hall, the bookings maintain its lifeblood and we are now looking for a replacement to take over the responsibility of “bookings” for 2013 and beyond. This is not an onerous task but one requiring a degree of commitment.

If you would like to be involved in the village and contribute to its future well-being then this could be for you –

“What a Cracker” – Capel’s Big Weekend

Christmas came early to Capel with another fantastic combined Show for Cars and Bikes and Vegetables and Flowers and “et al” on Saturday 18th August and a fantastic Music Festival on Sunday.

Cars and Bikes came out in ever increasing numbers – Military and Commercial – Car Clubs – Vintage – Veteran – Young and Old, in fact everyone came out with the purpose to have fun, entertain and enjoy themselves – and enjoy themselves they did!

And the public came out to marvel and celebrate the Annual Weekend Extravaganza of Capel. This year was the 14th Showing of Classic Cars & Bikes and generally agreed the best to date. More than 630 Cars and Bikes and other Varieties of motorised vehicles navigate their way along the A24 into Capel.

This year’s combined car marque was American Cars & Bike – names synonymous with mass production. Their owners did the show and themselves proud – especially the Model T Fords. The weather was brilliant and a welcome change this year.

Brisk trade was evident throughout the many commercial outlets on the field, especially for food and liquid refreshments!

Whilst the prime objective of Cars and Bikes is to raise money for the upkeep of the Church – as run by the Friends of St. John the Baptist – the occasion continues as a social and village gathering – an oppurtunity to reach out to the community and surrounding districts which it continues to achieve with great success year on year.

Huge thanks go to many people – not least the Car and Bike Committee – and their many friends and relations who control the roads, car parks, registrations, layouts etc. – and (just as importantly) take it all down and clear it all up afterwards – so a HUGE THANK YOU to YOU ALL.

And will we do it all again next year? Will the weather be as kind? What will the Car and Bike Marques be – How many can we squeeze in? – Who knows! – but watch this space for future Classic announcements.

Highways Matters

The Parish Council is dismayed at the lack of facilities that Surrey Highways has access to in terms of keeping the parish road gullies in working order. Many of the gullies in The Street and Vicarage Lane, Capel and elsewhere in the Parish, are blocked and have been so for several months despite having been logged several times on the SCC Call Centre and website. The Parish Council has written to the Surrey County Council Local committee asking for funds to be made available for further investment in gully emptying and Jetta equipment to stop the continuous streams of water flooding down our roads.

Policing Matters

The police are currently very concerned about the level of anti-social behaviour in Capel, particulary around the Old Forge Surgery, Laundery Way, the Village Hall and Tennis Court areas. It is beleived to be the same group of youths who are responsible for all the incidents. Offences range from harassment of residents, criminal damage and causing a public nuisance. Residents are asked to report all incidents on the 101 number quoting MV/12/1686. PC 2987 Dootson is the assigned officer.

Cable Laying in The Street Capel

This came to an abrupt end two weeks ago when Landbuild were informed that Cheetham Hill Construction, the primary contractor, would be installing the remainder of the ducting themselves by a method known as ‘directional drilling’. This meant gaining approval from their client (BIFFA) to use this method due to the amount of exsisting services in the area and because the method would be far less disruptive to members of the public. Completion is due on or around the 13th May 2012
