Flix In The Stix Capel’s Cinematic Experience
This month’s film is Mr. Turner, which is based on Mike Leigh’s biography of the artist J.M.W Turner, who is played by Timothy Spall. Turner lived from 1775-1851 and was a member of the Royal Academy of Arts. A lot of the film was shot at Petworth House, which is relatively local for us, where Turner had a permanent studio. The third Lord Ergemont was one of Turner’s greatest patrons and the house was used as one of the key locations in the film. Showing in the Capel Memorial Hall on Tuesday 3rd March. Doors open at 7:30pm for 8pm start. Refreshments available. Everyone welcome. £4 on the door.

Community Orchard
It is good to hear that the Capel Community Orchard, a joint venture with Capel Society of Friends and the Church, was duly planted with fruit trees at the end of January. Many thanks to the Friends for all they have done to enable this to proceed.
News From Scott-Broadwood March 2015
Our topic this term at Scott Broadwood has been space. We’ve also been talking about Recycling. Combining the two we held a Box-Troll Recycling Day!
The classes mixed up and the children had to work together on their plans. They designed an enormous rocket and then had to find the right modelling bits for each part of the rocket. Fixing the bits together took a lot of thought as they wanted to make sure it was secure and would survive a trip into space. They also made a Box-Troll family to send off in the rocket. Altogether it was a great day for teamwork and construction skills (And lots of fun!).
Commenting on the day the children said…. they liked being creative and using their imagination, liked working with different children, liked the painting and getting messy, liked the sticking and gluing.
Astronaut food has also been made and eaten – it was yummy!
A pink, yoghurt looking mixture which had to be put in individual plastic bags so it didn’t float around the space ship.
Next term one of our topics is Journeys – where we will travel to and how will we get there?

Capel Men’s Group
The Capel Men’s Group has been meeting in Capel for the last 30 years. We meet 7 times a year to enjoy a variety of activities which including listening to interesting speakers, eating good food, enjoying a summer BBQ, and last but not least, getting together with friends and having a drink together. Our normal meetings start with a dinner together followed by a speaker and discussion. We currently meet at the Duke’s Head. Our speakers are varied, some with local topics and others more general, for example our talk in February will be on Capel history and in March, tower Bridge London. The main purpose of the Capel Men’s Group is to promote a sense of community within the men of the village, to enjoy each other’s company and at the same time to support local charities and good causes such as the Capel Almshouses, Capel Youth Club and the Capel Brownies. Wives and partners are invited to two of our events each year, the summer BBQ and the January Ladies night. New members are always welcome. Please call David Steel on 01306711711 if you would like to know more about the Capel Men’s Group or are interested in becoming a member.
