1st Capel Brownies – The Big Brownie Birthday
Brownie Gang Show
In September and October the Brownies went to Leatherhead to practice for a very special Gang Show to raise money for Faurefold in Westcott, where we go for a stay overnight and have fun activities. We had to practice to make sure we were loud and clear for the big day at Dorking Halls on 2nd November. We had 2 shows, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. There were lots of Brownies and Guides from the local groups and they all had a song or act to do. We sang ‘Brownie Queen!’ It is a version of Abba’s ‘Dancing Queen’ and even our leaders dressed up and joined in and looked like they were really enjoying it! Our final song was ‘Reach for the stars’ which everyone joined in and sang along With. We enjoyed it so much and all had a great day -it was AMAZING!

Rainbows are the youngest section of Girl Guiding UK. Capel has a very active group and if your daughter is between 5 and 7 years old she may like to join us. To show you what the girls enjoy about Rainbows we asked them last month and this is what they said:
” We make, do and play fun things,
We go on trips – we went to the zoo.
We work to earn badges.
We talk about things we have done during the week.
We play good games.
We like to be in the Hall with our friends – we make new friends.
We have nice leaders and junior leaders – all the leaders and girls are kind.
We make food and eat fun (slimy!) things.”
A number of Rainbows are moving up to Brownies at the end of this term so we have space to welcome new girls. If you would like your daughter to be part of this fun group please register her details on www.girlguiding.org.uk under the ‘parents’ section.
We will be in touch with you as soon as we receive her registration.

FIRST CAPEL BROWNIES TAKE OVER WEEKEND AT PGL WINDMILL HILL
On Friday 10tn May, 22 excited Capel Brownies and 4 leaders set off with 45 other Brownies and leaders from the local area to Windmill Hill in East Sussex for a Brownie Takeover Weekend. In total there were 400 Brownies and leaders on one site for a weekend of fun and activities with the ever-enthusiastic PGL staff. A fabulous (if exhausting ) weekend was had by all and the girls should be very proud of themselves for overcoming fears and tackling the challenges presented to them.
Here are some of their highlights –
I liked the archery because we got to shoot arrows. We got to do fencing and it was really fun. I love PGL. P.S. PGL stands for Parents Get Lost! Ha.
When we went on the zip wire it was AMAZING! It felt like I was really flying. At first I was really scared then I jumped and it felt brilliant.
I enjoyed rock climbing. I loved PGL.
Brownies had a great time at PGL. The activities were brilliant. I loved the zip wire .. It felt like I was a bird.
I love PGL -zip wire, trapeze. fencing, archery.
What I like the most of PGL was the climbing wall and the zip wire. I especially liked the bed rooms
and the comfy beds. The best I’ve had without my brother.
I loved the zip wire but I was really stared because I don’t like heights but I loved it in the end.
I liked the bedrooms and archery, but the trapeze was the most scariest because it was very high and felt like you were going to fall out but you had a harness on so you were safe.
It was the best time of my life; my favourite activity was the zip wire.
I loved the rock climbing and the trapeze because the first time I did it I was worried but I got up my courage and did it. I loved PGt. Dan was fun.
When we went to the climbing wall it was AMAZING! It felt like I was higher than a tree! I love PGU!
Dan was so funny. I liked the banana song as well.
Well the best bit was going on the zip wire and having a big night feast. GEORGE EDE

News From 1st Capel Brownies
If you drive past the Village Hall at about 5:15pm or 6;45pm on a Friday evening you probably see much activity as the Brownies arrive and leave! We are fortunate to have a thriving full Brownie Pack in Capel with 4 dedicated adult leaders and some current and ex-Guides helping out as volunteers too.
We have a varied weekly programme in addition to attending larger events with other members of Girlguiding. We regularly attend Parade Services at St John the Baptist Church and we get involved at other village events such as Christmas tree decorating, Capel Old Friends Lunch, Vicarage Fete, show Day in August etc.
Highlights from the end of last year include our family Bingo evening shared with the Rainbows, Guides and their families.
We had a super Holiday Weekend at The Old Pheasantry in Mogador when the girls did lots of activities to earn their seasons badge. We especially enjoyed making kites and flying them on Reigate Hill. We worked on and completed the disability awareness badge and had the badges presented by PC Mark Trezise and his wife who visited with their guide dog puppy. We made willow Christmas decorations, some of which the girls took home and some were used to decorate our tree in Capel churchyard, enjoyed by us all.
We are currently looking forward to an activity weekend at a PGL centre in East Sussex. The Brownies have been encouraged to earn some of the money themselves to pay for the trip. See our invitation for 8th March!
2014 marks the 100th birthday of the Brownie section of Girlguiding UK. We will keep you posted of our plans but we would love to make contact with any ex-Brownies living in or around Capel!
