Untouchable/ Intouchables
The next film is different but comes highly recommended. It is the highest grossing film to have been released in France and comes to us with sub-titles.
15 cert, 112 min.
Dir: Olivier Nakache, Éric Toledano; starring: Omar Sy, François Cluzet
Untouchable wears its award-winning aspirations on its sleeve, and all of the necessary boxes — boundary-crossing friendship, hard-hitting themes, warm comedy — are ticked with a fluorescent pink marker. François Cluzet, perhaps best known here for the muscular thriller Tell No One, plays Philippe, an eccentric Parisian millionaire and quadriplegic. Tired of being surrounded by be-cardiganed milquetoasts, he advertises for a new live-in carer and hires Driss (Sy), a strapping black immigrant from a broken home in the banlieues who only applied for the post to keep the benefits office sweet.
So there you have it. We start 2013 on Tuesday 5th February. As always, in the Capel Village Memorial Hall, doors open at 7.30pm for an 8o’clock start. Ticket, on the door, cost £4 per person, same as before.
We look forward to seeing you all again.

Please Give Blood This Winter
Blood stocks in the South East are at a comfortable level but we would like to encourage more people who have yet to give blood to do so now. The demand for blood is never ending and there is currently a need for 7,000 units of blood in England and North Wales every day.
Donated blood is used to save the lives of sick and injured people. Not only can blood be used in accident and emergency situations but it is also used for patients undergoing surgery and receiving treatment for cancer and other blood diseases.
There are more than 250,000 active donors in the South East but each year some donors cannot donate due to travel or ill-health and the need for blood is constant.
Please give blood at your local venue: Majestic House, Blatchford Road, Horsham. RH13 3QR
The next sessions are: Friday 14th December 2012
Sunday 30th December 2012
To book an appointment call the Donor Line on 0300 123 23 23 or visit www.blood.co.uk. You can also follow us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/NHSBlood and on Twitter at @GiveBloodNHS
Flix In The Stix – 6th November 2012
Next film – November 6th 2012
Our next offering, on Tuesday 6th November is Salmon fishing in the Yemen. It is a romantic comedy concerning two people brought together by a Middle Eastern water management company. The cast, including Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt and Kristin Scott-Thomas, are attractive and its sense of humour might best be described as updated Ealing Comedy. So it has similarities to ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ and should provide a great evening’s entertainment.
We look forward to seeing you all again at Capel Village Memorial Hall. As always, doors open at 7.30 pm for the film to start at 8 pm. Ticket on the door priced £4.00 each (the same as before).
Thanks to Richard Hunt we have updated information about the meal deals available to Flix in the Stix-ers at The Crown Inn, Capel. The important change is that you really should book beforehand to be able to get the Two for One curry at £8.00. There is a choice of Chicken Korma (mild), Beef Madras (hot), Lamb Rogan Josh (medium) or a mild to medium vegetarian option.
In addition, for £5.50 each you can have a choice of Fish & Chips, Scampi & Chips or a Risotto of asparagus, broadbean and roasted garlic.
Sounds good to me.
But PLEASE, please, contact Sue or a member of staff at the Crown and book your choice. Contact details are:

Telephone: 01306 711130
Or drop in.
Hope you have all got that. Sue needs a reasonable number of people on Tuesday night to take advantage of this special deal, so do try to support you village pub. Especially as in future, they will be offering a Take Away service for Fish & Chips Monday to Saturday from 6pm to 9pm.
Capel Christmas Tree Extravaganza
Would you believe? It is time to start thinking about; lighting up the village, with our churchyard Christmas trees again.
This year they will need to be placed and decorated from 9-30am on Saturday 1st December.
Please let Sally Wyborn know if you and your group intend participating this year. Also if you know of any other groups that might like to join in.
Looking forward to our usual happy community occasion.
Capel Horticultural Society – Annual Quiz & Supper
Following the success of the Quiz night being held in the Village Memorial Hall last year, the Society is planning to hold the same event on Saturday 2nd February 2013, doors open at 7 pm for 7.30 start. There is a delicious four- course menu of
- A Mediterranean Platter for sharing,
- Choice of Steak & Kidney Puff pie, or Chicken breast with Orange and Basil, or Mushroom, spinach & butternut lasagne – all served with parsley new potatoes and green beans.
- A choice of Chocolate truffle cheesecake with Raspberries, or Apple & Walnut crumble with vanilla ice cream or Cheese platter is offered for the dessert course.
- All rounded off with Coffee or Tea.
Not bad for £17.00 per person (same price as last year). AND there is the Quiz that tests your horticultural and general knowledge as a team. So why not make up a party and come along?
Last year tickets were quickly sold out and some people were disappointed as it was oversubscribed. Tickets are limited to 80, after that we cannot accept any more due to capacity. All tickets and meal preferences must be stated by 6th January 2013. Tickets will be on sale through Jackie Coke (, tel 01306711098, email: jackie.coke@btconnect.com), and will be available at the next Flix in the Stix on Tuesday 6th November when we will be showing ‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’.

Cycle Race – Sunday 9th September
Dear Capel residents.
I am just contacting you with additional notice that the annual Surrey League Rusper road races promoted by Crawley Wheelers Cycling Club are taking place on Sunday 9 September. Our club has a proud tradition of hosting these races on behalf of the Surrey League as they have been running now for more than 20 years and throughout this period we have always enjoyed good co-operation with the residents of the villages and areas in which the race goes through. We hope that this continues this year. Official public notices will be placed along the route 7-10 days before the race date. The Rusper course on which the races take part is only being used once this year for British Cycling events and the events are held with the full co-operation of the relevant police forces for the area. We thank you for your co-operation.
“What a Cracker” – Capel’s Big Weekend
Christmas came early to Capel with another fantastic combined Show for Cars and Bikes and Vegetables and Flowers and “et al” on Saturday 18th August and a fantastic Music Festival on Sunday.
Cars and Bikes came out in ever increasing numbers – Military and Commercial – Car Clubs – Vintage – Veteran – Young and Old, in fact everyone came out with the purpose to have fun, entertain and enjoy themselves – and enjoy themselves they did!
And the public came out to marvel and celebrate the Annual Weekend Extravaganza of Capel. This year was the 14th Showing of Classic Cars & Bikes and generally agreed the best to date. More than 630 Cars and Bikes and other Varieties of motorised vehicles navigate their way along the A24 into Capel.
This year’s combined car marque was American Cars & Bike – names synonymous with mass production. Their owners did the show and themselves proud – especially the Model T Fords. The weather was brilliant and a welcome change this year.
Brisk trade was evident throughout the many commercial outlets on the field, especially for food and liquid refreshments!
Whilst the prime objective of Cars and Bikes is to raise money for the upkeep of the Church – as run by the Friends of St. John the Baptist – the occasion continues as a social and village gathering – an oppurtunity to reach out to the community and surrounding districts which it continues to achieve with great success year on year.
Huge thanks go to many people – not least the Car and Bike Committee – and their many friends and relations who control the roads, car parks, registrations, layouts etc. – and (just as importantly) take it all down and clear it all up afterwards – so a HUGE THANK YOU to YOU ALL.
And will we do it all again next year? Will the weather be as kind? What will the Car and Bike Marques be – How many can we squeeze in? – Who knows! – but watch this space for future Classic announcements.
