Capel Sports Pavilion

Fantastic news! On 12th December, the London Marathon Charitable Trust granted us a fabulous £50,000 towards developing a new Sports Pavilion at the Recreation Ground in Capel.

This has been driven by the Cricket Club so far, but the award of this grant is a major stimulus to develop a new facility that could be used by many of Capel’s clubs and societies. Following on from this initial grant it would be useful to consult widely with all groups in Capel who might have a stake in this project and so a working group will shortly be formed to take this work forwards.

This is the very beginning of what will be a major project for Capel and there will be a large amount of effort involved to bring this to fruition.

Happy New year!

Cycle Races

Surrey County Council has been busy working on the feedback from all the local Cycling Forums held throughout the summer and has prepared ‘The draft Surrey Transport Plan Cycling Strategy 2014-2026.’ in all there are nine documents which can be found at: www.surrey.cc.gov.uk/cyclingstrategy . The consultation continues through until 1st November and SCC are very keen to have as many responses as possible from the different communities, particularly if you are or your business have been affected positively or negatively by any of the cycle races this summer of by all the increased cycling activity locally.

Cycle Races

A number of local forums have taken place in and around Abinger to receive feedback on how the Prudential RideLondon cycle race on August 4th affected residents and businesses. This information, particularly the effect of road closures, will be fed back to Surrey County Council and the race organisers. Please send your comments to Rebecca Hutchinson (PA to the CEO of Mole Valley District Council) email; Rebecca.Hutchinson@molevalley.gov.uk .

Under 10: David Jaques

Under 12: Andrew Sloane

Under 14: David Venn / Gary Edwards

All of the coaches have a wide range of experience and Coaching Qualifications and if there are any Children in the village who are not yet involved feel free to pop down to the club and see on of the coaches or contact Anthony on 07841 373198.

The Adult Section of the club is Vibrant with 3 League sides ( 2 Saturday and 1 Sunday). Most of these teams are made up of a mixture of young lads who have previously come through the colts system and the experienced players. All 3 sides are currently doing exceptionally well and the club is in a very strong position. Home games on Saturday start at 1:30 and the bar is open from around 5:30 and social membership is available to all. Sunday 16th June witnessed our annual Colts 6-A-Side Tournament where we had 20 sides playing on 3 pitches which was again very successful.

If you are a child of 5 right through to a very old OAP and you want to come and see what is going on in the heart of the village, please pop down and have a look.

Cycle Race – Sunday 9th September

Dear Capel residents.

I am just contacting you with additional notice that the annual Surrey League Rusper road races promoted by Crawley Wheelers Cycling Club are taking place on Sunday 9 September. Our club has a proud tradition of hosting these races on behalf of the Surrey League as they have been running now for more than 20 years and throughout this period we have always enjoyed good co-operation with the residents of the villages and areas in which the race goes through. We hope that this continues this year. Official public notices will be placed along the route 7-10 days before the race date. The Rusper course on which the races take part is only being used once this year for British Cycling events and the events are held with the full co-operation of the relevant police forces for the area. We thank you for your co-operation.
