Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2015

A very big ‘thank you’ to all those that helped to collect and gave so generously to the Poppy Appeal this year. Together we raised £1,415.80 for this worthy cause.

The Royal British Legion is the UK’s leading charity providing financial, social and emotional support to over 10 million who have served and are currently serving in the armed Forces, and their dependants. It was founded in 1921 and although the needs of ex-Service people have changed over the years, the Legion is still there to safeguard their welfare, interests and memory. British service people are in action round the world every day of the yar.

If anyone would be willing to help in the collection for 2016, please let me know.

Many thanks

The Ockley Dramatic Society, which nowadays incorporates a contingent from Capel too, are proud to present this season’s Pantomime: Percy and the Holy Grail, by Sharon Holm. Loosely based around the characters of King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable, this jolly jape guarantees fun and laughter. Like the past couple of years we are performing the first week in CAPEL and the second week in OCKLEY. Additionally, we have been invited to perform in CRANLEIGH too and we are putting on one performance on the Sunday between the other performances.

Synopsis:

King Arthur lies close to death, poisoned by wicked Morgana.  Only the Holy Grail can save him now.  But where is it?  Sent on a quest to seek the Grail both far and wide and here and there by Guinevere, will the Knights of the Roundtable find the Grail or will pure of heart Percy, a simple boy from the forest, save the day?”

CPC Notes for December

At the meeting of the Parish Council on Monday 16th November there was an update on the progress of the Neighbourhood Development Plan following 3 local public meetings which were held recently in Beare Green, Capel and Coldharbour. The next public meeting about the Neighbourhood Plan for all 3 villages will be held on Tuesday 26th January 2016 at 7pm in Beare Green Village Hall and all are welcome. There was a discussion about all the traffic calming measures that might be introduced in Capel and it was suggested that enquiries be made to see if a traffic consultant could give advice about the most effective things that can be done to improve safety.

The Festive Season will be no doubt be over far too soon, and in the New year the Choir will be turning its attention back to the music for the Leith Hill Music Festival in which it will be singing on Thursday 14th April 2015. New singers are warmly invited to join the Choir and sing with us in the Festival; men as always will be particularly welcome!

Capel Assist

There was a very encouraging show of support at the Village Hall on the afternoon of 19th October for a scheme to provide neighbourly support for and by the residents of Capel and surrounding area. The intention is to set up a group of volunteers who will co-rdinate the provision of assistance and services to those in need of them, by helping in the home, providing transport, home visits and similar services. Approximately 30 people attended that meeting offering to be volunteers and or become committee members. As a result, an initial committee meeting has been held with the intention of setting up the organisation. The committee has agreed on Capel Assist as the name of the support group. Regular meetings will be held with Vicki Turton or Surrey County Council, who will be advising on the set-up of the organisation.

There will be a need for financial support in setting up the phone, appropriate insuruacnes, publicity etc, and it is likely that various groups within the Village will be contacted in that regard. We have been advised that it will be necessary to undergo DB (Disclosure and Barring) checks (ex-CRB), which will take some time to undertake. The committee have agreed to self-finance their own DB checks in order to start the process as quickly as possible. The committee would welcome additional offers of support from volunteers who would be willing to give their time and assistance. The committee will also be starting to spread the word amongst those in the Village who would like to make use of such a worthwhile service. Thank you for your enthusiasm at the initial meeting. We will be giving further updates as Capel Assist is set p. Please contact Sally Wyborn on 01306 711575 for further details, queries or offers of help.

Capel Choral Society: Christmas at home!

‘Home’ for Capel Choral Society is the Memorial Hall in Capel village, and that is where the choir will be holding its Christmas Concert on Monday 7th December. The programme will include the ‘Christmas’ choruses from Handel’s messiah (including Hallelujah!) interspersed with some less familiar pieces by Rossini, Saint Saens and Mendelssohn. There will also be some favourite Christmas Carols for the audience to join in.

The concert will start at 7:30pm and ticket prices is £7.50 which includes seasonal refreshments.

In addition to the concert, the Choir will be hosting Cakes & Carols in Capel Parish church on Sunday 13th December, which will be an opportunity to joint he Choir in an informal afternoon of carol singing, including all the most popular Carols.

The Choir is now well into its 2015/16 season and is already looking forwards to the 2016 Leith Hill Music Festival and have started learning Haydn’s Harmoniemesse and some of the smaller pieces which it will be performing in the Competitions on the morning of its Festival day next April. The Choir will only start serious rehearsal of this music in the New Year however and has only scratched the surface of these pieces so far, so there is still plenty of time for new singers to join Capel Choral and be able to ‘cats up’ easily, sopranos, altos. tenors and basses will all be very welcome – but particularly Men!

See information and pictures of the choir on our website www.capelchoralsociety.com or contact our Secretary at ianmoir20@yahoo.com or phone 01306 889817
