Surrey 3 Peaks 2013 Saturday September 28th

Broanmain’s hill-topping hat-trick

Local Dorking company, Broanmain Plastics, will this year complete an impressive third successive sponsorship of the annual Surrey 3 Peaks fundraising event.

Having established an excellent partnership with event organisers and local independent charity, the Surrey Care Trust, managing director of Broanmain, Wilf Davis, expressed his delight at being able to continue his support for the charity:

“We’re very happy to sponsor the Surrey 3 Peaks event for three years in a row. The Surrey Care Trust does fantastic work in our local community. The walk is a brilliant day out and an important fundraiser for a great charity; so if on the back of that we can get a few people to remember Broanmain Plastics then even better.”

As well as sponsoring the Surrey 3 Peaks fundraising event, Wilf has also supported the work of the charity in a much more hands on capacity. Students from the Surrey Care Trust STEPS under 16 education programme have had the privilege of visiting the Broanmain factory, based just south of Dorking. Here they could experience an environment of work as well as being able to interview employees about their roles and responsibilities.

In addition to celebrating a three year partnership with Broanmain, the 3 Peaks event has itself reached a significant milestone. With the first 3 Peaks taking place back in 2004, this year’s walk – due to take place on September 28th – is set to become the 10th outing of the spectacular marathon length fundraiser.

The beautiful 26 mile route attracts walkers, runners and canine companions from across the county and beyond; all of whom get to experience some of Surrey’s most sumptuous countryside. The trio of Holmbury, Leith and Box Hill all possess spectacular vantage points and are favourites among Surrey’s rambling enthusiasts.

There is no entry fee for the event, but each participant is asked to raise £125 in sponsorship. The proceeds will support all aspects of the Surrey Care Trust’s work. The charity runs education and training programmers for young people and adults, provides mentoring and counselling and offers volunteering opportunities as a way to learn new skills. The Trust also gives Crisis Grants to people in all parts of Surrey facing immediate hardship.

If a marathon walk is just a step too far, participants can also opt for a shorter challenge, walking the first half of the route. Visit www.surrey3peaks.info, call 01483 412751 or email walk@surreycaretrust.org.uk to find out more and register.

Gambit

Our film for March is a remake of the 1966 film, of the same name, that starred Michael Caine and Shirley Mclaine.  In this one the roles are taken by Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz with Alan Rickman playing the bad guy.  It is directed by Michael Hoffman and was released in the UK late last year.  The script is by the Coen brothers and is played for with broad humour.  The art gallery at Compton Verney House was used for filming some scenes.
